New AFHC Membership Year Begins

Hello Adult Family Homes of Washington!

A new membership year for the Washington State Residential Care Council begins July 1st, 2015. If you are already a member, thank you for your support. Please complete the enclosed paperwork (click here to download invoice and here to download membership information form) to renew your membership. If you are not a current member, I hope you will consider the benefits of membership and join in our mission to support adult family home owners to provide quality care to residents.

The July 2015 through June 2016 membership year is shaping up to be a big year for adult family homes. Due to the AFHC collective bargaining efforts, Medicaid rates paid to adult family homes will increase by 5% on July 1 and again by 5% on July 1 of 2016. This is only the first step. The AFHC will continue to exercise our rights to secure rates that reflect the actual cost of providing care. The AFHC also advocates at the legislative level to fund rate increases and improve the rules that regulate the AFH industry.

The AFHC will continue to provide education and networking through our chapter meetings. Additionally, we plan to provide free one day training events around the state, online training access, and in person courses provided by AFHC training partners as a benefit of membership with the AFHC.

The AFHC is available to help members with specific client questions, regulatory appeals, business planning and other issues that support an adult family home’s success. Members also have access to an online library of policies, forms, sample letters, best practices and educational material.

Lastly this next membership year will include improvements to the AFHC website. Specifically, members will be able to add vacancies for their home to our AFH locator tool. The AFHC will be investing in a public awareness campaign about adult family homes. The campaign will use media, such as radio, print and television, to drive potential residents and families to the AFH locator when searching for care options. We will also market the tool to hospital and nursing home discharge planners, social workers and other potential referral sources.

More information on recent AFHC activities and membership benefits are enclosed. You can also review our 2015 annual report that was recently sent to all adult family homes and is available by clicking here.

I look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve you.

Sincerely,

John Ficker
