NEW AFHC Education Coordinator
We are excited to introduce our new Education Coordinator, Visakha Som, MPA, who brings more than 20 years of experience in training, quality improvement, and program coordination across nonprofit, government, and long-term care settings. Building on her work with Washington’s Developmental Disabilities Administration and other long-term care and behavioral health organizations, Visakha has deep experience turning regulatory and quality requirements into practical tools that providers can actually use in busy care environments.

Visakha is a seasoned trainer, facilitator, and curriculum developer who has designed and delivered workshops on regulatory compliance, documentation, cultural competence, and organizational learning for diverse audiences. She is especially skilled at transforming complex information into clear, step‑by‑step resources, checklists, and guides that support direct care staff and administrators in providing safe, high-quality, person-centered care.
As your Education Coordinator, Visakha will lead AFH Council conferences, trainings, and educational materials, working closely with chapters and state agency partners to ensure education is timely, relevant, and grounded in the realities of operating an adult family home. Guided by a strong commitment to organizational learning, she aims to capture lessons from everyday practice and member feedback so they can be shared across the community and translated into better outcomes for residents.
Visakha is organized, responsive, and mission-driven, and she is eager to hear directly from you about what would be most helpful. Please join us in welcoming her to the Adult Family Home Council team. we look forward to the new training opportunities and practical resources she will be developing to support you and your homes.
