Our Mission: To improve the lives and well-being of vulnerable adults through the support of adult family homes.
Formed in 1993, the Adult Family Home Council (AFH Council) aims to improve the lives of vulnerable adults by supporting adult family homes. We assist providers with high-quality care through education, advocacy, direct support, and marketing. The Council represents AFH providers in the state legislature, with the Department of Social and Health Services, and for collective bargaining.
“The Council helped me navigate a very complex CHOW, avoid citations, and protect my home in a way that saved us very steep legal fees and fines; furthermore, their advice was extremely useful in settling a lawsuit that allowed us to recover the losses we suffered during this process. If you are not a member, you are choosing the expensive route to solve the problems you and your home will eventually encounter.”
“I encourage everyone to become a member of the Council because they give us someone to talk to. They know the time constraints of being a provider and give us very short and concise trainings. I get all the trainings I need and I learn a lot. I feel refreshed every time I go to a conference or a meeting, because I know I'm not alone. My morale goes up.”
“I'm happy to be part of this great organization. I'm very blessed to have direct AFH counseling that helps me as a provider and my clients. I've gotten support with social work, connecting with DSHS, and even help managing my clients' family members in so many ways. The AFH Council even came to my home to help. I cannot navigate managing my home without them.”
“If I have a question and the topic is grey and I need clarity, I call the Council. I once called about a document I needed about a resident's right to have a locked door... I could have created it myself, but that documentation was already available in the Council's document library. If you want to have the correct information on hand, get in touch with the Council.”
If I have any questions, the Council is there for me. You call them and they know you. I don't know how they remember my name with so many providers out there. They ve helped me follow-up on resident non-payments, assisted me with ETs, and led to the success of my business. They've also helped me contact case managers and their supervisors. They're always friendly, very professional, and very polite. And they're always willing to share information. What else can I say? They're exceptional.
