Inspections are stressful and can feel intimidating. Here are some best practices to follow when an inspector shows up at your home:

1. Remain calm, this will help you and your staff through the inspection.

2. The state inspector should hand you their business card at the door when they come to your home. If the inspector does not offer you a business card, ask for it. Keep that card in an easy to remember spot as you may need to contact the inspector.

3. Only supply the inspector with the information they ask for. There is no need to volunteer any additional information.

4. If the inspector states that you are in violation, ask them for the WAC they are referring to.

5. If the inspector states that you are missing any kind of form or exemption documentation, ask them to provide you with the correct form(s).

6. Ask the inspector for a time frame for receiving the inspection results.

Important things to remember:

1. Stay calm, we help quite a few members who received citations for not having the correct items in a file. Once the inspector is gone and the stress level goes down, the providers are able to find the items.

2. If an inspector mentions something you don’t recognize, you have the right to ask questions and get clarification.
