Celebrate Residents' Rights Month!
Resident’s Voice Challenge with National Consumer Voice
October is National Residents’ Rights Month, a time to honor and celebrate the rights, dignity, and voices of all individuals receiving long-term care. The National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care has an exciting opportunity for your residents to get involved and make their voices heard through the Resident’s Voice Challenge! This creative contest invites residents to submit essays, poems, artwork, drawings, or videos that reflect this year’s theme: Stand with Me.
The Resident’s Voice Challenge is a meaningful way for residents to express their thoughts on what residents’ rights mean to them, advocate for their own rights, and contribute to a nationwide celebration of dignity, choice, and autonomy in long-term care settings. This is also a great way to engage your residents with activities, highlight adult family homes on a national level, and show your community how you’re making a positive impact.
Engage Your Residents in Activities
Keep residents engaged and participate in the Resident’s Voice Challenge by organizing creative sessions where residents can express their feelings about their rights through artwork. They can submit creative works in one of two categories by the June 30th deadline:
Artwork: Residents can submit posters, paintings, or drawings that express their ideas about residents’ rights.
Written Entries: Residents can also submit essays or poems (50 words or fewer) that that express their ideas about residents’ rights.
When your residents’ submissions are sent to Consumer Voice, share photos of the activity with your community! You can also share with the Adult Family Home Council at maya@adultfamilyhomecouncil.org.
Please request consent from your residents before sharing photos of them with others. A photo consent form is included in our document library.

Membership fees enable the Council to cover legal expenses and fund staff to advocate with the state and regulatory agencies. The participation of every adult family home is vital to ensuring fair regulations and rates that accurately reflect the costs of caring for our vulnerable adults. Consider becoming a member of the Council to help us continue improving conditions for all adult family homes in Washington State.
