NEW AFHC Director of Communications & Digital Technology

Please join us in welcoming Douglas Hummer as the Adult Family Home Council’s new Director of Communication & Digital Technology. Douglas brings more than 10 years of experience in digital media, web technologies, and technical operations, with a background that spans web development, digital marketing, technical support, and small‑business technology administration. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Digital Technology & Culture from Washington State University and has worked extensively with WordPress, SEO, digital advertising, and user‑focused technology projects that support brand visibility and audience engagement.

Douglas is a skilled digital communicator and technical professional who has designed and maintained websites, supported infrastructure and hosting environments, and implemented tools that improve usability, performance, and access to information. His experience includes managing WordPress sites and online marketing for small businesses, developing web applications using React, JavaScript, Firebase, and Go, and administering Linux‑based infrastructure, DNS, VPN, and security services to support reliable digital operations.

In his role with AFHC, Douglas will lead the Council’s communications and digital presence, including website content, design, and functionality, email marketing, and online engagement tools. He will help strengthen AFHC’s WordPress website systems, member‑facing resources, and digital workflows so Adult Family Home providers, families, and partners can more easily find and use clear, timely, and practical information. Drawing on his experience in technical troubleshooting, analytics, and automation, Douglas will also support improvements to high‑value tools such as the Adult Family Home Finder and other online resources that advance the Council’s mission.

Douglas is also a Washington Army National Guard veteran, where he served in field artillery operations and developed leadership, teamwork, logistics, and problem‑solving skills in demanding environments. Outside of work, he enjoys gardening, woodworking, cooking, video games, and spending time with his family. He is excited to join AFHC and looks forward to supporting Adult Family Home providers by making digital systems and communications more accessible, effective, and responsive to their needs.
