Weekly Advocacy Update
April 11, 2025
Weekly updates from your Director of Government Affairs and Advocacy!
Thank You!
I want to thank everyone who continues to answer our calls to action and amplify our messages to legislators. We are making progress! I say “we” because this progress isn’t mine alone. WE are moving things forward together—change takes all of us and will continue to take all of us.
Let’s stay motivated, engaged, vigilant, and aligned.
Updates
1.Weekly legislative webinars will resume on Friday, April 18. These will be conducted via Zoom and will not count as continued education. Join these webinars to stay informed.
During the webinar, I will have updates for you and share a timeline that we, as a council, will follow to ensure we are organized and ready for the next legislative session. You can find this tentative timeline here: Timeline for 2026 Legislative Session CBW.docx
2. We have received a commitment to put forward an amendment to keep our licensing fees at $225. We NEED to continue to message. Stay on the lookout for more calls to action. On April 11, we sent a petition and letter to urge the House and Senate to remove their license fee increases. Read the letter we sent with nearly 650 signatures.
3. The Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) was directed to conduct a study on the cost of Liability Insurance for Operators. You can find the proceedings of that work group on their website. Adult family homes are businesses, and the state needs to recognize the cost of business. Inflated costs and inequitable rates are not sustainable. A survey will be sent out on Monday, April 14 requesting your input to fully demonstrate our needs.
Please stay tuned!

Membership fees enable the Council to cover legal expenses and fund staff to advocate with the state and regulatory agencies. The participation of every adult family home is vital to ensuring fair regulations and rates that accurately reflect the costs of caring for our vulnerable adults. Consider becoming a member of the Council to help us continue improving conditions for all adult family homes in Washington State.
