We Need Your Voice on AFH Insurance Costs

Submissions Due by 5pm on April 21

The Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) was directed to conduct a study on the cost of Liability Insurance for AFH owners. You can find information for that work group on their website. As part of this important work, your input is needed to help paint an accurate picture of the financial realities AFH providers face.

Why This Matters

Adult family homes are businesses that play a vital role in Washington’s long-term care system, but inflated premiums and inequitable insurance rates are putting immense strain on providers that is not sustainable.

While the cost of liability insurance is just one of many challenges AFHs face in managing rising business expenses, sharing these challenges is essential. It’s how we help the state understand the financial burdens that impact our ability to provide consistent, high-quality care.

How You Can Help

We are urging all AFH providers to complete a survey to demonstrate liability insurance challenges. The survey includes questions about your profit and loss over the past 10 years. We know that sharing financial information can feel very personal. That’s why this survey is completely anonymous. You will not be asked for your name, address, or any identifying details. We only ask that you reference the map below for your location.

We strongly encourage you to share as much information as you are comfortable with. Even general estimates are helpful. This kind of information helps show how rising insurance premiums and other costs have impacted AFHs over time.

You are not alone in facing these challenges. The more data we have, the stronger our case is for accessible insurance. By sharing your experience through this survey, you’re helping us build a more sustainable future for all adult family homes.
