Friends –
Over the past six months we’ve closely reviewed how our members engage with AFHC communications — especially our Friday newsletters. That review, and vision forward, has been meaningfully led by our Director of Education & Publications, Stacie Thyrion.
One clear trend has emerged from the data: the open rates and readership patterns show that while providers value our information, the weekly newsletter format is not always the easiest to keep up with amid the increasing demands of running an Adult Family Home. At the same time, the amount of important information affecting providers continues to grow — particularly in the areas of regulatory compliance, licensing expectations, rate and contract changes, workforce rules, and legislative developments. Many of these topics deserve more context and clearer explanation than our short weekly format has allowed.
For these reasons, AFHC is moving to a new monthly magazine-style publication format. This updated format is designed to be easier to read, easier to access, and more valuable to keep as a reference. Instead of shorter weekly messages that can get lost in busy inboxes, the new monthly issue will bring together the most important updates and guidance in one organized, provider-friendly publication.
Each monthly edition will include:
• In-depth regulatory and compliance guidance
• Practical licensing and survey readiness tips
• Legislative and policy updates affecting AFHs
• Program and rate explanations
• Training and CEU opportunities
• Marketing advice and opportunities
• Chapter highlights
• Affiliate partner resources and tools
• Operational best practices and risk alerts
Our goal is to provide clearer, deeper, and more useful support — not just more messages. Our new magazine format allows us to explain complex topics using plain language, including step-by-step guidance where needed, so that we give to AFH providers something worth saving and sharing with their staff and other AFH Providers.
We will of course continue to send timely alerts via email and Facebook on time-sensitive changes so that our members can see single-issue news that’s relevant to their AFH compliance and success.
As always, the Adult Family Home Council’s goal is to support providers with practical tools, reliable information, and strong advocacy. This new approach is one more step toward making sure you receive the guidance you need — in a format that respects your time and supports your work.
Thank you for all you do every day in caring for Washington’s residents residing with love and care in our State’s Adult Family Homes.
Best, Bob
