AFH Council Spotlight: Community Homes

Founders John and Ann Therrien started Community Homes in 1995 for their daughter, Jenny. Her family wanted her to have every opportunity to live more independently. This first Adult Family Home in Bellevue still serves Jenny and four other women. Community Homes now owns 8 Adult Family Homes and 2 shared-living homes in Bellevue, Bothell, Woodinville, Newcastle, and Shoreline.

Commmunity Homes continues to actively seek opportunities to increase housing options in each of their communities. Their mission is to provide, promote, and sustain exceptional community-based housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Community Homes partners with several organizations and families who work towards finding housing solutions. To learn more about Community Homes, visit https://www.community-homes.org/

Membership fees enable the Council to cover legal expenses and fund staff to advocate with the state and regulatory agencies. The participation of every adult family home is vital to ensuring fair regulations and rates that accurately reflect the costs of caring for our vulnerable adults. Consider becoming a member of the Council to help us continue improving conditions for all adult family homes in Washington State.
