Message from Our Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for your kind and generous welcome to the Adult Family Home Council this week. It was such an honor for me to e-meet with so many of you at this week’s all-state chapter meeting as the AFHC’s new Executive Director, and to introduce our outstanding new team of organizational support specialists to better assist our membership. The new staff and organizational makeup are an essential part of the Board’s 3-year planning efforts geared to how the AFHC can best represent, support and provide the best value for the members we are so honored to serve.

It’s so important that the word “family” is in our organization’s name and the licensing model our membership works in every single day. Why? The dictionary tells us that family can mean both a group of people living together as a household unit, or even a group of related things. I can see the AFHC as both of those aspects of a family – we share a common bond in a related area, and we all “live” under the same regulatory conditions – having those and many other common threads.

I appreciate the idea that the AFHC is a family unit comprising all of you, and all of us, with a common bond of helping vulnerable adults that reside with us the quality and experience they deserve. You each live that promise every day – and we thank you for the opportunity to embark on our “AFHC family” journey together into the future.

In the words of the legendary Kenyan leader Jomo Kenyatta, “we are the architects of our future.”  Together we can do amazing things – and together we will be the architects and builders of a brighter future for Adult Family Homes in our State.
Thank you all very much for the opportunity to partner together – we are excited and ready!

All the Best,

Robert (Bob) Schroeter

Membership fees enable the Council to cover legal expenses and fund staff to advocate with the state and regulatory agencies. The participation of every adult family home is vital to ensuring fair regulations and rates that accurately reflect the costs of caring for our vulnerable adults. Consider becoming a member of the Council to help us continue improving conditions for all adult family homes in Washington State.
