 | Vote PRO on HB 1720 for Expanded Medication Assistance! |
| Attention Adult Family Home Council Members, Our partners at the Washington State Health Care Association and LeadingAge Washington are seeking our support. HB 1720 is legislation that would update Washington’s medications assistance law to permit community-based care settings (AFH and AL) to aid with pre-filled medications in addition to insulin. The bill is scheduled for public hearing tomorrow, February 11 in the House Health Care Committee. Note: there is no fiscal note attached. We are not competing with funding. What will HB 1720 do? It would allow a caregiver to assist in the preparation of injectable diabetic medications, including putting a needle on an insulin pen, priming the needle, and dialing the dose so a resident can self-inject the medication— all without requiring delegation. With newer commonly used injectable medications now, such as Wegovy and Ozempic, as well as other injectables for the treatment of arthritis, anemia, and other conditions, a caregiver could legally hand the medication to the resident for the resident to self-inject.
