Bonnie Bruce

All About Seniors‎ ‎ |‎ ‎ Vancouver

Bonnie Bruce has been an adult family owner for 27 years in Clark county. I have served on the board of directors since 2009 as the legislative coordinator and as the at large board member for over 10 years. I have testified before the legislators many times and in 2009 for HB 1395 allowing AFH’s to be located anywhere in the state without fear of legal actions from communities opposed to them. HB 1395 passed the first session!

I served as co-chair of the local chapter for several years until becoming a board member.

I love this industry and have watched it grow tremendously with the help of the Adult Family Home Council.

My main goal for serving on the board is to promote community awareness of adult family homes with the councils new marketing plan.

I would love to serve another 3 years and then I hope to retire.

I would ask that you give me another opportunity to serve our industry.

My name is Amber D. Martinez. I was born and raised in the Yakima Valley, But well traveled. I have been a registered nurse for over 20 years. My field of specialty is Emergency Medicine, Hospice and Hospital Administration. I purchased my first Adult Family Home in 2019.

Over the past 4 years I’ve done 2 CHOW and 1 additional Adult Family Home constructed from the ground up and will eventually build a fourth. My homes specialize in dementia, mental health and Intellectual Disabilities.

By 2025, the Adult Family Home market in the United States is expected to grow from $100 billion to $225 billion. As a result, the need for “improved quality care” is in high demand.

My passion as an Adult Family Home provider is to promote quality of care and advocacy for the elderly and vulnerable adults . Ultimately, my hope is that the Adult Family Home industry will advance its reputation for providing outstanding quality care and rapidly evolve with the changing of times. I’d appreciate your vote for Executive Board Member at Large, I’m excited to have the chance to serve our growing industry!

I’m a driven, compassionate Entrepreneur, who is passionate about the work I do in my community. In my career as an owner of 5 Adult Family Homes, I have assisted many in my community with the coordination of services and resources available to them. The bureaucracy and limitations that my peers and I have experienced over the years in this industry birthed my passion for advocacy. It is for this reason I accepted the nomination for a position on the AFH Council’s Executive Board of Directors.

My long-term goal is to help shape policies that affect the AFH community that I’m so proud to be a part of.

Vote for – BONNIE BRUCE – Vote for – BONNIE BRUCE – Vote for – BONNIE BRUCE for the Statewide At Large (Statewide) position

Many don’t know how much she has already done for the AFH community.

Here is why I think she is the best choice:
    1. Bonnie has been fighting for our rights for longer than most providers have been in business.
    2. If you like being able to own and operate your AFH in a HOA or any neighborhood. You can thank Bonnie for her passionate speech during the legislature session.
    3. She knows about the lobbying process already & successfully convinced the legislature to vote in our favor.
    4. She is familiar with the AFHC function, rules, & internal politics.
    5. She is able to teach the new Board Members about the process, & about the history of the AFHC & why it has played such an important role in our community.
    6. There have been years with some board positions that were vacant. When there wasn’t a lot of interest of participation, Bonnie was there. (I am glad there is more interest in serving on the Board. It is an honor & a privilege. We are representing all of the members of the AFHC & benefit all AFH Providers).
    7. Bonnie has spent a lot of time fighting for our benefit. Without getting paid since the Board positions are volunteer based.
    8. She is not shy to speak out against injustices. She has already done this and is still doing it.
    9. I was a new addition to the Board last year and have seen first hand what Bonnie believes in & how she advocates for us.
    10. Many of the long time Board members are retiring or retired recently. So we do need some of the members to carry on the historical knowledge and share it with the new Board Members. There is a lot to learn & the AFHC does a lot more than people realize.
    11. I am in a unique position where I am a new board member, but have a decent amount of years as a provider & are plugged into the AFH community. So I am in a good place to see what we need from a board member, what kind of responsibilities to expect, what a new member has to learn, & what the providers know/understand & want. I really think Bonnie is the right person for the at large position.

    12. I think the other candidates are probably great providers, I just don’t know them well. I hope they continue to have the desire to serve even if they don’t get voted in this time. & there are still ways to serve besides being a board member. Do keep in touch & consider running again in the future. It is great to have more providers interested & learning the amazing things the AFHC has done, are doing, can do & will do.

So in Short….. Vote for Bonnie. : )
