| | AFH COUNCIL UPDATES August 8th, 2025 |
| | Message From Executive Director |
| Friends – Thank you for your engagement on this week’s All State Chapter Meeting – and our conversation on the promise of community inclusion activities like meaningful day, and the challenges and inequities created by the State Legislature’s decision to not fund meaningful day this biennium. Our work is not done, and our fight is far from over. We will continue to demand that meaningful day get funded so that the State’s promise to AFH providers and its implicit promise to Washingtonian’s who need that service can be fulfilled and not broken. Big kudos to our Chapter Coordinators in Spokane and Snohomish (Marysville) for the wonderful programs, greeting and networking opportunities – if you haven’t been lately, you shouldn’t miss the yummy food, great networking, and informative programs all our Chapters statewide have for our valued members. Thanks for bringing the miracle of Adult Family Homes and the loving care provided to all those who have the need, and for providing the critical residential capacity that the State needs to serve our vulnerable adults in our care. You are all my heroes every day, and it’s an honor to stand by your side every day to represent and fight for what you and our industry needs to function and to grow. -Bob |

| As a reminder, on May 22, a Dear Provider Letter was sent from the Department of Social and Health Services outlining an increase to AFH license fees. This was enacted as part of the 2025 State Budget. Please review our AFH News update for details on the legislative change impacting your licensing fees and contact information for questions regarding your renewal date. |

| We’ve sent a short survey to your email and are asking for your input on how the loss of Meaningful Day funding has impacted your Adult Family Home. This is a critical opportunity to share your experiences and ensure your voice is heard. Your feedback will help us advocate for the return of this valuable lifeline for the residents we all care deeply about. We’ll use your responses to illustrate the real impact of these cuts in upcoming meetings with state leaders and on the hill. Please take a few moments to complete it—your perspective matters. |
| | | <!– | Understanding Citation Letters |
| Receiving a citation letter can feel overwhelming—but the most important first step is to take a deep breath and carefully read through the letter. It provides critical information about what needs to happen next, including a deadline for your response. Don’t miss it. It’s important to know that not everything in the letter is a citation. You may see a section labeled “consultations.” These are not formal citations. Instead, they highlight areas the licensor believes could benefit from additional guidance or coaching. Citations and Consultations remain in your history. The key section to focus on is the Statement of Deficiencies. This portion lists actual citations and outlines what must be addressed. Be sure to submit a timely and thorough response to these items by the date specified. Responding appropriately and promptly is essential for maintaining compliance and ensuring the continued safety and well-being of those in your care. If you’d like assistance with your SOD, please call the AFHC or email us at info@adultfamilyhomecouncil.org |
| <!– | | Snohomish Region Shines with Record Turnout! |
| <!– | We’re thrilled to share a heartwarming update from one of our members in the Snohomish region! At a recent local provider meeting, attendance soared—more than doubling from past turnouts of just 5–7 people. The room was full of energy, connection, and shared purpose. One member sent in a photo capturing the spirit of the day (with only four leaving before it was taken!) and shared: “We had a fantastic turnout and thought to send you our group photo (4 people left prior to taking the picture). Bob is a hoot, down to earth and look forward to working with him too! We’ll see you next month at the conference!” -Rose Benton Snohomish Chapter Coordinator It’s wonderful to see the Snohomish region re-energized and more connected than ever. This kind of engagement is not just encouraging—it’s inspiring. We can’t wait to see what comes next and are so grateful to everyone who continues to build community in every corner of our state. Let’s keep the momentum going! |
